# Add a contact to an automation

1. **Select ActiveCampaign** as your target Plug. Click the red gear and choose your connection. You can also create a new one. Click “Continue.”

2. **Choose “Add a contact to an automation”** as your action and the automation you want to use. Click “Continue.” This will display the action’s data template.

3. **Fill in the data template**, linking target and source fields. You must fill in the required fields (marked with a red asterisk), but you can skip optional fields. Click “Map” once you’re done.

If you don’t want to go through each field, you may use the search bar at the top. You can also filter required and optional fields.

4. **Make sure the target app is active** in the upper-right corner. Click “Add a target” or “Save” to add another target app or save your Gear.
