👨💻Set up your data template
A data template is crucial for creating workflows in any integration platform, like Zapier. It’s the map that shows how the data will reach a target app. Luckily, GearPlug simplifies the process into a few steps.
For every target App, you must indicate which data (from your source Plug) will go to which fields (in your target Plug).
How do I create a data template?
After setting up your source Plug, GearPlug takes a test register for you to choose the fields you’ll use in your Gear.
Every data template uses two sets of fields: The ones coming from the source Plug and the ones you can fill in the target Plug. After choosing your target, GearPlug looks for the available fields for you to link them.
How do I link the fields?
In your interface, you’ll see a list of fields. Said list shows all the available target fields. You can see them with their tags and field names to identify them easily.
Some fields are required by your target App. You’ll see them tagged with a red asterisk. You can’t leave these empty, and they’ll always be at the top of the list.
Remember to fill in the required fields: If you don’t assign data to the required fields, you won’t be able to save your data template. As such, ensure your source Plug is collecting them.
You can search fields using the search bar at the top of the list. You can also use CTRL + F to use your browser’s search function.
Choosing the fields on your data template
Your target Plugs (within the Gear) will show a drop-down menu with the fields where the data will go. From your source Plug, the fields fall as variables in two groups: Fields and Empty Fields.
In Fields, you’ll find the fields with information from the source. They’re the fields that contain data.
Empty Fields group empty fields, which you can set up in case they’re filled in the future.
Once you’re done linking the fields, you’ll find the “Map” button under the list. This connects the source and target fields. After mapping them, you may add more target Plugs with the “Add a Target” button. Otherwise, you can save your Gear by clicking on “Save”.
Remember to turn on your Gear before leaving the app!
